Grandview Dig Festival
Every year, when the air gets a little cooler and the streets a little livelier, we gather for something that’s become far more than an event. The Grandview Dig Festival is our love letter to the neighborhoods we call home — a day (and sometimes a whole weekend) where streets turn into galleries, gardens become concert venues, and front porches transform into the best seats in town.
If you’ve ever walked through a neighbourhood and wondered about the stories behind those old wooden doors, or stopped to admire a hidden courtyard you never noticed before, this festival is for you.
Where It All Began
I started this festival with a few friends and a shared love for craft beer. We’d set up a couple of stalls, invite local brewers, and spend the afternoon swapping tasting notes. It was small, scrappy, and full of heart. But something unexpected happened — people didn’t just come for the beer. They came because the festival gave them an excuse to wander into parts of the city they’d never explored. They lingered on streets they’d always driven past. They talked to neighbours they’d never met.
That curiosity was infectious. So we started adding walking tours, then pop-up markets, then open-home visits hosted by proud residents. Before we knew it, the festival had outgrown its beer tent and woven itself into the fabric of the communities it touched.
More Than a Festival, a Neighbourhood Awakening
Today, the Grandview Dig Festival is a living, breathing showcase of local life. Yes, you’ll still find exceptional craft beer (some things are sacred), but you’ll also find street musicians playing under banyan trees, grandmothers selling their famous pickle recipes, artists painting murals in real time, and real estate agents who actually grew up on the block sharing what makes their area special.
We don’t just celebrate neighbourhoods — we invite you to step inside them. To taste their flavours, hear their rhythms, and maybe, just maybe, imagine what it would be like to live there.
What You’ll Discover
- Neighbourhood Walks & Talks: Guided strolls led by residents, historians, and architects who know every hidden courtyard and forgotten lane.
- Open Homes & Digs: A curated selection of homes that open their doors — from heritage bungalows to modern apartments — so you can experience the spaces behind the facades.
- Local Flavours & Brews: Food stalls, craft beverages, and pop-up kitchens that define the taste of each neighbourhood.
- Art, Music & Stories: Live performances, storytelling corners, and community art projects that capture the spirit of the place.
- Meet the Makers: Artisans, builders, and small business owners who shape the local culture every day.
Neighbourhood of the Month Comes Alive
Throughout the year, we shine a spotlight on one neighbourhood at a time — digging into its history, its housing, and its heartbeat. At the festival, that featured neighbourhood takes centre stage. You’ll get to walk its streets with the people who know it best, tour homes that rarely open to the public, and hear firsthand what it’s like to put down roots there. It’s our online guides, brought to life in the most tangible way.
Plan Your Visit
The Grandview Dig Festival happens once a year, usually in late autumn when the light is golden and the evenings are just right for gathering. Dates and venues shift to highlight different parts of the city, but one thing stays constant: every corner of the festival is designed to help you connect — with a place, a story, or a future home.
Whether you’re a long-time local, a curious explorer, or someone quietly searching for your next neighbourhood, you’ll find your people here. Bring comfortable shoes, an appetite, and a willingness to wander.
Stay Connected Year-Round
The festival may be a single weekend, but the discovery doesn’t stop when the stalls come down. Our site is alive all year with neighbourhood profiles, home tips, event news, and real stories from residents. If a street steals your heart during the fest, chances are we’ve written about it — and maybe there’s a home waiting for you there, too.
This is how we’ve always done it: start with curiosity, follow the footpaths, and let the neighbourhoods speak for themselves. The Grandview Dig Festival is where that journey begins, again and again, every single year.
